Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor

Togo 5 goals

25 year old Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor was born in Togo to Nigerian parents in 1984. He currently plays for Manchester City FC in the English Premier League, who bought Adebayor from Arsenal in July 2009 for around £25million. Adebayor has scored 16 goals in 38 appearances for Togo and was African Player of the Year in 2008.

31 May 2008 Togo 1 – 0 Zambia 0 goals
8 June 2008 Swaziland 2 – 1 Togo 0 goals
10 September 2008 Zambia 1 – 0 Togo did not play
11 October 2008 Togo 6 – 0 Swaziland 4 goals

There were only 4 games played in the first round of qualifying instead of the usual 6 games as Eritrea withdrew from the qualifiers on 25 march 2008 and were not replaced.

28 March 2009 Togo 1 – 0 Cameroon 1 goal
6 June 2008 Gabon 3 – 0 Togo 0 goals
20 June 2009 Morocco 0 – 0 Togo did not play
6 September 2009 Togo 1 – 1 Morocco 0 goals
10 October 2009 Cameroon 3 – 0 Togo 0 goals
14 November 2009 Togo 1 – 0 Gabon did not play

Adebayor scored 5 of the 11 goals that Togo scored in a tumultuous qualifying campaign that including the rearrangement of International Qualifying matches due to the death of the President of Gabon, the awarding of a 3-0 win to Gabon after Togo played an ineligible player (Adbul Mamah was suspended but still played – ironically the match had ended 3-0 to Gabon anyway) and the fact that Togo were suspended from holding their home games in Togo due to crowd violence – meaning that their home games versus Swaziland and Cameroon were played in Ghana. Despite this, Adebayor still scored 45% of Togos goals to help them to the 2010 African Nations Cup Finals.
