England’s World Cup opponents Algeria knocked out pre-tournament favourites Ivory Coast in a nail-biting quarter-final.
Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou’s netted the opener, but it was soon cancelled out when Algeria’s Karim Matmour popped bring the underdogs back into the game. Kader Keita’s 89th-minute strike looked to have put the game to bed for Drogba’s side, but Algerian sub Madjid Bougherra netted a last-gasp header to take the contest into extra time.
When in extra-time it was some horrendous defending from Ivory Coast that saw Algeria’s Hameur Bouazza send Algeria into the semi-finals.
They will now face either Egypt or Cameroon in the semi’s on Thursday
