Egypt made a good start to the defence of their African Nations Cup crown with a comprehensive 3-1 defeat of Nigeria in the opening Group C game.
Despite Egypt controlling the opening stages of the match, Nigeria took the lead against the run of play when Chinedu Obasi Ogbuke scored. However parity was restored when firstly Emad Moteab, and then Ahmed Hassans deflected shot put Egypt 2-1 up by the 54th minute.
The points were secured three minutes from time when substitute Mohamed Gedo finished past Vincent Enyeama to complete the scoring and put Egypt top of the group.
