Egypt became the only team to gain a 100% winning start to the 2010 African Nations Cup, defeating Mozambique 2-0 and securing a place in the last eight of the tournament.
After a dull and goalless first half, chances were rare with the first real chance not coming until the 25th minute. Hosni Abd Rabo crossed for Shikabala who scuffed his shot, which allowed the Mozambique keeper to scramble the ball behind for a corner. In first half stoppage time Egypt actually got a decent chance on target with Kampango saving well from Moteabs well struck shot.
In the second half Egypt went ahead. Hosni sent in a low cross from the right and Khan conspired to slide the ball into his own net to give the current African Nations Cup holders a fortunate lead.
After 53 minutes Mozambique created a chance of their own. The brilliantly named Tico Tico found space in the box but shot straight at Essam El Hadari. Egypt responded and Moawad shot wide from a tight angle.
Mozambique thought that they had equalised in the 58th minute, but were denied by the linesmans flag.
Finally Egypt started to string some passes together and scored a peach of a second goal.
Hassan played in substitute Gedo who flicked the ball up, turned and rifled a volley home to secure the points and send Egypt through.
