The holders and winners for the past two tournaments, Egypt, have set up a bitter semi-final clash with Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations after an extra-time win over Cameroon.
Egyptian captain Ahmed Hassan was the star of the show for the current champions, netting twice – once in normal time and once in extra time.
Cameroon took an early lead when Egypt’s Hassan headed in a corner for an own goal, but he made amends by cancelling that out 10 minutes later to bring the game level.
Hassan was also making history as the 34-year-old skipper was making his 170th appearance for the Pharoahs – an African record.
Egypt will now face bitter rivals Algeria in the semi-finals, which is a repeat of the controversial World Cup play-off clash in November that saw Algeria qualify for South Africa.
